Brenden Watts is the Executive Director of Trans People of Color Coalition, a national organization designed to empower and support trans people of color through advocacy. Brenden’s passion for activism started from volunteering with TPOCC and expanded his role into a community organizer. Using social media platforms to highlight the trans community, he has expanded TPOCC’s national footprint through networking and bringing social awareness to trans issues. Brenden’s community work has included hosting workshops for various communities at conferences and universities, covering legal issues, policies, and intercommunal topics.
Brenden is very conscious about being a vocal and visible advocate. His role allows him to provide information to a variety of communities. He believes that having open conversations with an open mind for clarity will bring more understanding to the truth.
“Working with different kinds of people is a way for me to reach my people and help bridge the gap between my communities [people of color and trans/ queer people]. I see that people can become more open-minded – I’ve seen people treat others differently after they learn new information, and their language and mindset change. It’s a process.”
