Legislation currently pending in Congress, the Equality Act, would positively impact the lives of millions of Americans by updating our civil rights laws to fully and explicitly include protections on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
The Trans People of Color Coalition is partnering with GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD), Freedom for All Americans, and the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) to highlight the personal stories and experiences of members of our communities left most vulnerable by a lack of federal nondiscrimination protections.
The project will spotlight our human stories to illustrate the need for Congress to take action to provide protections for LGBTQ people and expand protections for others.
These federal protections would improve the lives of community members who live in places with limited or no protection at the state or local level. This disproportionately includes transgender people, people of color, low-income LGBTQ Americans, LGBTQ people raising families, and people living in Southern, Midwestern, and non-coastal states and rural areas.
Sharing our stories in the media and online will deepen understanding of the critical need to pass protections quickly.
Would you be willing to participate in this project? Please share your story below.
We'll work around your schedule to conduct an interview by phone or Zoom to hear about your personal experience and support for nondiscrimination protections in your own words. We will then discuss potential ways to share your story -- whether via a blog post, op-ed, or interview with a media outlet.
Our team wants to make it as easy as possible for you to participate if you are willing and able to do so. We will keep all your information confidential until we can have a conversation about next steps and how we can support you in sharing your story.
